Why Become a Personal Support Worker

PURSUE A GROWING CAREER IN CANADA

With a rising aging population, the healthcare industry is facing a growing shortage of qualified professionals. Personal Support Workers will continue to be needed to help care for an increasing number of older patients in nursing and residential care facilities. Feel confident you’re getting relevant skills to enter an in-demand career with plenty of opportunities.

DO REWARDING WORK

Personal Support Workers help their clients with daily tasks they can no longer perform independently, such as bathing, grooming, grocery shopping, cleaning, medication reminders, cooking, and getting to and from appointments. The work that they do each day truly makes a difference in people’s lives.

CHOOSE WHERE YOU WORK

Personal Support Workers typically work in long-term care facilities, where they assist residents with medical routines and personal hygiene care. They can also work in hospitals, in-home care, or working with agencies. Many Personal Support Workers change locations throughout their careers, giving them a well-rounded understanding of their field.

CONVENIENT SCHEDULES

Personal Support Workers have a lot of options when it comes to their work schedule. You may find that long-term care facilities have different shifts you can choose from, depending on your needs. Some jobs may offer fixed schedules, while others vary based on the setting, needs and schedules of their clients.

Student Success Story

After graduating from a Bachelor of Social Work program I found myself desperately searching for work in an over saturated workforce. That’s when I decided to pursue my Personal support worker diploma from Trios. Knowing that this field was in high demand, I set my sights on my new career. 8 short months later, I took my NACC exam and one week later I was able to land a job working with a community care agency. Trios opened so many new opportunities for me and for that I am truly grateful.
